2025 Southeast Georgia Skills Challenge Showcases Emerging Talent in the Trades
November 20, 2025
More than 275 high school students from 26 counties gathered at the Bulloch County Agricultural Complex for the 2025 Southeast Georgia Skills Challenge, part of AGC Georgia’s statewide series focused on hands-on workforce development.
With industry partners, educators, and volunteers working side by side, the event provided students with the chance to compete in a range of skilled trade categories, including:
Carpentry
Electrical
Plumbing
Welding
Masonry
Heavy equipment operation
Blueprint reading
Roofing, fabrication, and more
Led and judged by construction professionals, each challenge emphasized real-world applications and showcased the care, craftsmanship, and technical skill that drive the industry forward. Hundreds of additional students attended as observers, taking part in demonstrations and connecting with employers at the on-site career fair.
AGC Georgia’s Skills Challenge series plays a meaningful role in strengthening the talent pipeline by introducing students to construction career paths early and building their confidence with hands-on experience. Winners from these regional events will advance toward the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership & Skills Conference in early 2026.
As the industry continues to evolve, events like this highlight the importance of meeting young people where they are—providing mentorship, opportunities to explore the trades, and a clearer view of the rewarding careers available in construction. Through these collaborative efforts, the next generation of craft talent is already taking shape across the state.
