High-Voltage Powerline Rerouting
A 40,000-volt electrical line ran directly through the middle of the site – a major constraint to progress. Rather than delay construction, Choate strategically re-phased operations to safely work around the line while grading the site, building a 35-foot retaining wall, installing underground conduits, pulling new wire, and tying into a new switch gear system. Once rerouted, the existing overhead line was safely demolished, all without impacting critical milestones.
Rock Repurposing and Site Stewardship
Excavation revealed 65,000 CY of classified rock, a potential cost driver that became an opportunity. The project team crushed and reused the rock onsite, integrating it into geogrid reinforcement for the retaining wall and balancing the site. Thanks to this sustainable and cost-effective solution, the project team was able to protect the client’s investment.
